Tilda is encouraging foodservice operators to celebrate National Vegetarian Week (NVW) 2011 – by using the consumer appeal and versatility of rice to liven up their menus.
Mark Lyddy, Head of Foodservice for Tilda, said: “Rice is perfect for vegetarians because it goes so well with a variety of vegetables which means it presents a real opportunity for caterers to freshen up their menus during NVW.
"In fact, there is so much more to rice for vegetarians than just the traditional risotto dish which they tend to be offered. It presents chefs with an opportunity to be really creative through serving up these new recipes and other innovative dishes such as Mediterranean Stuffed Peppers and salads featuring Basmati rice.
"The versatility of rice can help outlets to engage with vegetarians and non-meat eaters and overcome the perception that vegetarian dishes are a challenge in the kitchen. The beauty of rice is that it is so versatile and easy to prepare and we have used that to devise a range of recipe ideas to inspire the growing vegetarian audience while also reflecting the practical needs of caterers.
"These easy-to-prepare dishes provide chefs with the opportunity to excite and engage their veggie customers as well as appealing to customers wanting a slightly healthier and lighter dining option. They will complement any menu during NVW 2011 and ensure that non-meat eaters really enjoy their taste of vegetarianism."
Tilda has an ever expanding selection of rice recipes that will appeal to consumers and chefs participating in the week-long event.
It includes two tasty new arrivals, Tilda Brown Basmati Rice, Chilli and Courgette Fritters with Minty Yoghurt dip and Sicilian Cauliflower, Caramelised Onion and Tilda Wholegrain Basmati Rice with Rosemary and Pine Nuts.
NVW 2011, which is designed to encourage more caterers to offer non-meat dishes and more consumers to sample them, is being staged this week – May 23rd-29th.
