Rice consumption in the UK out of home market is growing by over 11% year on year1 but despite its increasing popularity, rice is still under represented on menus - only 2.3% of meals eaten out of home include rice as a key ingredient (excluding Indian and Chinese outlets).
To encourage more rice dishes on menus and to promote the versatility of rice Tilda, the UK’s number one rice brand, is running the second Tilda Chef of the Year competition, in association with the Craft Guild of Chefs, with a live cook-off at Hotelympia 2008.
All you need to do to enter is submit recipes for a main course dish and sweet, using rice from the Tilda range in both dishes. Choose from Tilda Original Basmati, Original Brown Basmati, Easy Cook Basmati, Basmati & Wild, Thai Jasmine and Arborio Risotto.
Ten lucky contestants will be chosen and given one hour to prepare, cook and present two portions of both courses in a live cook-off on Tuesday 19th February at Hotelympia 2008. Tilda will provide rice products but competitors must supply all other ingredients.
All ten finalists will receive a selection of Tilda products and membership to the Craft Guild of Chefs for one year, while the winning chef can enjoy a luxurious weekend break for two with a prize of dinner, bed and breakfast at a Marriott Hotel of their choice.
For entry forms and further details contact Peter Griffiths at peter@salonculinaire.com or phone/fax 01564 776482. Closing date for entries is December 1st.
